In a word, The LED downlight is an energy saving light bulb option which uses a light-emitting diode (LED) as the source of light and is usually fitted or housed directly into a recess or ceiling producing light in a downward fashion.
It is designed to replace the old Halogen (35w or 50w) or florescent bulbs, uses considerably less energy than traditional bulbs (between 20% - 85% less) and usually comes with a built in driver. How is an LED Downlight constructed?
Usually made from steel or aluminium, the fitting is unseen and houses the LED bulb and is held in place by spring clips, ensuring a secure tight fitting into the ceiling.
The only part of the fixture that is seen is the outer facial which is usually white although a silver metallic housing is available in some of our products such as the 6w Driverless Samsung LED downlight. Varying standards of LED Downlights are available and it is important to choose a good quality product to achieve maximum life expectancy and cost efficiency from the bulb.
What design options are available with an LED Downlight?

What are the colour choices available for LED Downlights?
Unlike the traditional incandescent or halogen bulbs, our LED downlights usually come in a choice of three colours; warm white, pure white or cool white.
Warm white is often recommended for residential properties as it gives a similar warm glow as the old incandescent bulb whilst cool white is usually the choice in commercial buildings. The colour of the light emitted is a personal preference and some customers favour the daylight effect of the pure white option.
In all three cases, the LED gives instant light as soon as it is turned on, without the warming up effect needed for low energy florescent bulbs.
